Mailbox Maintenance Information
Inspect your unit once a year and re-paint as necessary. Spraying a little WD-40 on the mailbox door hinges may help slow down the rusting process in that area. But because the units are out in the elements with mail carriers pulling on the door almost daily, the hinges will wear out eventually and the mailbox will need to be replaced at that time.
TREE MAINTENANCE
There have been some issues noted with the Ash trees along Greenfield Trail recently, with several of them appearing to be dying. It is possible that the trees may have been infested with the Emerald Ash Borer Beetle that has caused serious problems to Ash trees across Kentucky. These infestations, if that is what is occurring, are difficult to treat and the treatment may take up to 10 years, or at least until the State infestation stops. It is the recommendation of the Board that as these Ash trees die off or are removed, that they are replaced by the recommended tree.
It is the responsibility of the homeowners to maintain and replace these trees as needed and as such please do not replace these Ash trees with other Ash trees. If any resident has a question about this please let the AMS know.
Street Tree Requirements
Please take time to read the below information if you are building a home or replacing trees in your yard:
1. Tree Replacement Guidelines for all of Silver Creek Homes
a. Trees in Silver Creek homes are the responsibility of the homeowner. See guidelines for Old Silo Hill and Old Silo Hill 2 where the trees are the responsibility of each of their respective HOAs.
b. No tree in parkway does well (space between the walk and street). When replacing trees, please place them in the yard behind the sidewalks.
c. Trees do best away from the street and the city doesn’t have to prune
d. The diversity of trees is best when all the trees are not the same, if one goes then all on the street could die. Silver Creek no longer has specific tree requirements for each street. Instead, a list of trees below can be used for any of the streets. Before replacing trees, please complete the Exterior Modification Form to ensure the tree will meet requirements. Submit the form electronically to Kenny Speaks and he will forward the form to the board. You can find his contact information on www.silvercreekassociation.com/contact-us/
e. Maple, Ash, Poplar, and Elm should no longer be planted because of current diseases attacking these trees. Asian Long Horn Beetle is attacking maples and multiple genus of trees including poplar and elm. This is currently happening in Cincinnati and will be here.

2. Recommendations to ensure your trees stay healthy:
a. No heading (cutting all the tops off) This causes weak tree branches and introduces disease into the main branches and trunk.
b. No volcano mulch. Keep all mulch off tree trunks.
